2014 Grand National

winner 2014 Grand National

The 2014 Grand National will be a National Hunt horse race and will be held on 5 April 2014 at Aintree, which is near Liverpool in the UK. As in previous years the course will be the standard Grand National course of four miles three and a half furlongs or for the metric amongst us 7,200 meters. The course is made up of two circuits of the 2014 Aintree Grand National course and the horse will successfully have to navigate 30 stiff jumping fences. The 2014 Grand National course is still uniquely challenging, despite the “improvements” made to fences over recent years. The National features much larger fences than those found on most National Hunt racecourse. Some of the famous fences that have ended many jockeys dreams of winning the National and also ended many punters dreams of a big Grand National scope include Becher’s Brook, the Chair and the Canal Turn

The 2014 Grand National prize should continue to make it the most valuable jumps race on the European circuit with the 2013 Grand Nation prize fund being £975,000

I guess one of the key things we will try to answer over time is who will win the 2014 Grand National and what horses provide good value in the race.

Can the 2013 Grand National winner Auroras Encore ridden by jockey Ryan Mania for trainer Sue Smith repeat its win and go on to win the 2014 Grand National.

This is a task that has only been done in consecutive years by three horses in the history of the race, although a larger number of horses have gone on to win the race on more than one occassion.

Reynoldstown 1935/36

The Colonel 1869/1870

Abd-El-Kader 1850/51

1850 – “Abd-El-Kader” won and was the first horse to do so in under 10 minutes, winning £1,000 and went on to win in 1851 – and became the first ever dual Grand National winner, sorry no picture is available, although I would love to find one.
